The coast of Oaxaca is characterized by its beautiful beaches that have become a refuge for thousands of foreign and national visitors looking for a beautiful and quiet place to vacation.

Although the Oaxacan coast has a large influx of tourists, the majority limit themselves to visiting the most popular beaches such as Huatulco, Puerto Escondido, Zipolite, Mazunte, Zicatela, Puerto Ángel or Salina Cruz. However, Oaxaca has several hidden or little-known gems that we will share with you today.

TEMBO BAY

This spectacular beach is located in San Pedro Pochutla and is in a protected natural area, which allows access to visitors as long as the protection and care standards are met.

To get to it you can do so from Bahías de Huatulco and take federal highway 200 towards Pochutla. After 30 or 40 minutes of travel, a sign announces its name, however you must turn left, take a dirt road and follow the road for another 20 minutes, then you will have arrived at Tembo Bay.

With golden sand and completely blue waters, Tembo also has various rock formations that provide spectacular views and create small bodies of crystal clear water. This beach is the ideal place to lie on the sand to sunbathe, disconnect from the world and get closer to nature.

SALCHI BAY

This magnificent beach is located 30 minutes by car from Bahías de Huatulco Airport. Take federal highway 200 Acapulco-Salina Cruz for 12 km from the airport, turn left to take a dirt road for another 6 km.

This beach does not have a large tourist infrastructure so it is totally a place to rest, since it does have a couple of hotels with restaurants that serve guests and visitors.

TAHUECA BEACH

This is a 3.5 km long virgin beach in the town of Tahueca, very close to Pochutla. To get there, you need to drive about 45 minutes from Huatulco and then follow a 2 km dirt road east of Puerto Angel.

This charming beach is very little known by outsiders, which has allowed it to remain free of buildings and visual or auditory pollution. There are no tourist activities in Tahueca, making it an ideal place to meditate, relax, have a picnic or explore the surroundings.

AGUA BLANCA BEACH

Just 40 minutes from Puerto Escondido is Agua Blanca Beach, a hidden paradise on the Oaxacan coast and its main attraction is its calm waters, especially for swimming and enjoying a day at the beach.

CUATUNALCO BEACH

This paradisiacal beach is located 35 minutes away from Huatulco, and as it is a little-known beach, it is still considered a virgin beach. It is worth mentioning that it is away from the hustle and bustle and surrounded by vegetation, which makes it the ideal place for those looking to disconnect and find peace to rest, in the company of the waves of the sea, the impressive sunrises and colorful sunsets.

Cuatunalco has grown in recent years, but its atmosphere of tranquility has still been maintained, away from the crowds. To this day, there is no presence of large hotels or chain restaurants, however, there are excellent alternatives with all the services, which are undoubtedly responsible for offering very pleasant days.

It is important to remember that since they are mostly beaches without much human intervention, we must take care of them and try to maintain them as we found them. Without a doubt, the entire state of Oaxaca but especially its coastal area has unimaginable spaces full of magic that are worth knowing.
