DICIEMBRE 2025, AREA DE VENTAS
Magical Christmas in Oaxaca: From the Radishes of the Zócalo to the Coastal Breeze
The Posadas: The Heart of Community
In Oaxaca, the Posadas (from December 16 to 24) are more than just parties; they are the glue that holds the community together. In traditional neighborhoods like Jalatlaco or Xochimilco, locals unite to recreate the pilgrimage of Mary and Joseph.
The Procession: Neighbors of all ages walk the cobblestone streets with candles and traditional chants.
The Gastronomy: At the end of the route, doors open to share classic fruit punch, mole tamales, and crispy buñuelos (thin fried pastries).
The Plate Ritual: A unique tradition involves breaking the clay plate where you ate your buñuelo after making a wish, symbolizing detachment and hope for the new year.
Night of the Radishes: Art That Springs from the Earth
Every December 23rd, the Zócalo (main square) of Oaxaca City turns into a gallery of ephemeral art unique in the world: The Night of the Radishes.
Origin and Evolution
This tradition was born during the colonial period. Gardeners from the Trinidad de las Huertas area used to sell their vegetables at the Christmas Eve market. To make their stalls more attractive, they began carving figures out of radishes. What started as a marketing strategy evolved in 1897 into an official competition.
A Recent Renaissance (2022 – 2024)
The last three years have been pivotal for this tradition, showing an evolution that blends nostalgia with innovation:
2022: The Grand Return. After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the 125th edition marked a joyful reunion. More than 100 artisans participated, carving scenes from the Guelaguetza and elaborate Nativity sets in radishes weighing up to 3 kilos.
2023: Historical Innovation. This year saw the First Night of the Radishes Parade. Beyond the static displays in the Zócalo, floats and giant puppets inspired by radish sculptures marched through the streets, bringing the party to every corner of the Historic Center.
2024: Mastery and Memory. The most recent edition reached record-breaking attendance. Themes evolved toward the mystical, featuring nahuales, alebrijes, and fantastic creatures, alongside traditional religious motifs, reaffirming this craft as a living family legacy.
- Christmas Under the Sun: The Bliss of the Oaxacan Coast
If you are looking for a radical change to winter traditions, the Oaxacan coast offers a sanctuary where the cold is replaced by a sea breeze and coats are traded for a glass of mezcal at sunset.
Huatulco: Exclusivity and Nature in Harmony
Huatulco is the ideal destination for those seeking a sophisticated yet nature-connected Christmas. With its 9 bays and 36 beaches, the celebration here is an ode to tranquility.
The Experience: Imagine a Christmas Eve dinner at a private beach club or a signature restaurant in Santa Cruz Bay, where traditional turkey is replaced by fresh lobster or grilled “talla” fish.
Puerto Escondido: The Vibrant Pulse of the Pacific
For those seeking more energy, “Puerto” is the place to be. It is a cosmopolitan melting pot where surfers from around the globe and local families blend in a unique celebration.
- Vibe and Rituals: Bonfires on the sand and communal dinners under palapas are the norm. A moving experience during this season is participating in sea turtle releases at sunset ,a beautiful, symbolic way to celebrate life.
Why Just Visit When You Can Belong?
Oaxaca is experiencing a golden age. With the recent opening of the Barranca Larga-Ventanilla highway, travel time from the capital city to the coast has been slashed from 6 hours to just 2.5, triggering a historic surge in property values.
The Investment of a Lifetime
Acquiring a property in Huatulco or Puerto Escondido is not just about fulfilling the dream of a beach house; it is a brilliant financial move:
Rising Appreciation: In the last three years, the value per square foot in the Oaxacan coast has grown well above the national average. Investing today secures an asset that multiplies in value.
Vacation Rental Income: As a top global destination, your property can generate consistent income through platforms like Airbnb, especially during peak seasons like Christmas and New Year.
Unmatched Quality of Life: Trading city stress for the sound of the ocean and access to the world’s best gastronomy is priceless.
Your sanctuary in paradise is waiting. Whether it’s a modern villa on the cliffs of Huatulco or an organic design apartment in Puerto Escondido, now is the time to grow roots in Mexico’s most authentic state.
