The month of the Guelaguetza has arrived and this could not make us happier, this Saturday the first of 3 convites was held, which are precisely an invitation to the Oaxacan people and visitors to attend the festivity of “Los lunes del Cerro” which will take place in its first presentation on July 17. The following convites will be on the 7th and 8th of the present in the main streets of the historic center at 7:00 p.m.

The most extraordinary festivity of the Oaxacan people is framed by many other cultural activities that will take place throughout the month, here we recommend some of them.

You cannot stop attending the already traditional mezcal fair where different producers of this drink will meet at the Cultural and Convention Center from the 14th to the 25th of this month from 10 in the morning until 10:00 p.m.

If food is your thing, then you cannot miss the week of cravings, as its name says, you will be able to taste different typical Oaxacan dishes, mole, regional sweets, tlayudas, and much more is what you will be able to eat here. This event will take place in the well-known Parque Juárez El Llano also from July 14 to 25 from 12:00 to 20:00. We continue with the delights that Oaxacan gastronomy offers, since this month you can also attend the fair of our traditional drink El tejate, it is in the Plaza de la Danza where this July 19 and 20 where from 10:00 a.m. a.m you can taste this refreshing drink of the gods, and also the delicious tamales. Before the Mondays when the Guelaguetza is celebrated in the auditorium that bears the same name, the presentation of Donají La Leyenda takes place on Sunday, which we will discuss later in a future publication.

And of course, the obligatory stop is to attend El lunes del Cerro, where you will be able to witness the presentations of the different delegations of the 8 regions that make up our state, who share with local, national, and international a bit of what their roots and culture are.

 

However, in the city and in its surroundings there are many more activities that you can also enjoy, do not forget to visit the museums and let yourself be surprised by their outstanding artistic and cultural heritage, as well as take the opportunity to discover the archaeological zones near the center from the city, such as Monte Albán, Mitla, Yagul, and Zaachila. Escape to the nearby towns where you can get to know their culture directly as well as admire mountainous landscapes and go hiking, zip-lining and taste their gastronomy.

A must-visit are the traditional markets such as November 20, in the historic center. Entering this place is entering a gastronomic paradise, as you can find many places with typical dishes, its famous smoke corridor, which is called that way because you can find there roast meat such as tasajo, costilla (ribs) and chorizo , accompanied by their exquisite guacamole and grilled onions with tlayudas or tortillas.

You can also find Marimba concerts at the Zócalo, as well as the traditional danzón on wednesdays. We assure you that you will fall in love with any place you choose to visit on these dates and you will surely want to return more than once.
